Shah Rukh Khan played an important role in the journey of Tumbbad actor-producer Sohum Shah, who says the superstar is no less than “God” to him. Sohum said the way Shah Rukh rose in the industry despite being an outsider gave many, including him, the will to dream big in Bollywood.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Sohum said if SRK had not entered the Hindi film industry, the perception that it is a place only accessible to people in Mumbai would have remained.

Sohum Shah said, “Agar Shah Rukh Khan saab nhi aate toh aaesa hota ke ye Bombay, industry ke logon ki cheez he hai. Bahar ke aadmi k liye darwaze nhi khuule hue hai, vo participate nhi kar sakta. (If Shah Rukh Khan hadn’t come, it would have been like the industry is of the people of Bombay. Outsiders are not welcomed and they can’t participate.)”

The actor said the “seed” of wanting to do big things in life got a boost when Shah Rukh Khan, born and brought up in Delhi, made it in Bollywood, which inspired an entire generation that it was possible even for them to make it big.

“Aapke andar bachpan me ek seed ho jata hai ke mai yahan jaunga, kuch karungi kyunki SRK ne kiya hai, vo bhi Delhi se aae hai, bahar ke hai aur bahar ke aadmi ne aa ke ek jagah banai hai. Toh shayad humlog bhi try kar sakte hai. Toh boht he inspirational raha hai Shah Rukh Khan saab ka safar. (Since childhood, a seed grows inside that I would also go there and do somethings because SRK did it. He also came from Delhi and an outsider made a name and place for himself in the industry, probably we can also try. So, Shah Rukh Khan’s journey has been an inspiration.) He is no less than God to me,” Sohum added.

Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan had also shared the trailer of Tumbbad in 2018. The film has now made history as the highest earning re-release movie of all time at over Rs 25 cr nett.
