Alia Bhatt-starrer Jigra has the star in a rather unique role where she is playing a saviour to her younger brother, played by Vedang Raina. In a recent interview, director Vasan Bala shared that he did not plan for Alia Bhatt to be a part of the film when he was discussing it with producer Karan Johar and was not happy when Karan sent Vasan’s rough draft to Alia. Vasan said that his “kachha-pakka e-mail” found its way to Alia’s inbox and he wasn’t prepared for it.

Talking to Tried & Refused Productions, Alia said that Vasan and Karan were in talks with each other after Vasan’s Monica O My Darling and were looking for the next thing to work on when Vasan started working on this film. As Alia said that Vasan probably had an idea of who he wanted to do the film with, the director said, “No.” He then added, “I had written a very kachha pakka email, stream of consciousness thoughts… sent it to Karan and 6-7 hours later, he called saying that I have already sent it to Alia and I was really not happy with it.”

Vasan then explained that he wasn’t happy with Karan’s gesture because he wanted to check the script and correct the errors before sending it to Alia. “I was like I would have at least done some spell check, grammar check, hygiene, written some very nice hero entry… That email was sent and I asked Karan ‘why did you do this?’ He said ‘no, no this is how it works. Then he said we’ll meet in a couple of days,” he recalled. Alia said that she “responded to the material when I read the first half” and was very keen to know what happens next and thus, she chased Vasan for the rest of the script for one month.

The film also stars Manoj Pahwa in a key role and is scheduled to release on October 11.
