As fans look forward to Coldplay’s concert in India in January 2025, frontman Chris Martin has shared that the band will retire after releasing their 12th studio album. He mentioned that other famous musicians like The Beatles and Bob Marley also stopped after releasing a similar number of albums. Martin added that this decision will give him and his bandmates more personal space outside the band. Coldplay’s 10th album, Moon Music, is set to come out on October 4, 2024.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Chris said, “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Having that limit means the quality control is so high right now and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great. And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve.”

The musician explained that their decision to limit their albums to 12 was inspired by the careers of other artists. He said, “There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 ½ Beatles’ albums, there’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all our heroes.”

He also explained that creating an album with a band is a rewarding but wrangling process. “To make an album great as a band, it’s such a lot of wrangling of people, and I want to give the others some of their life for themselves,” he told People. He further clarified that while the 12th album will mark the end of Coldplay’s journey as a band, he will still collaborate with his bandmates—Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion—on other projects.

Coldplay will perform at Mumbai’s DY Patil Sports Stadium on January 18, 19, and 21, 2025. This marks the band’s first visit to India in 8 years, following their previous performance in Mumbai during the Global Citizen Festival in 2016.
