Saif Ali Khan recently shared his thoughts on social media, revealing his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan‘s dominance on Instagram and his own reservations about joining the platform. The actor opened up on how he navigates through the pressure of being on social media and chooses to live a more private life.

“My wife is the queen of social media,” Saif acknowledged, praising Kareena’s online presence at the recently concluded India Today Conclave in Mumbai. However, he confessed that he, along with their sons Taimur and Jeh, aren’t fond of Kareena’s habit of capturing every moment. “I see her following many interesting things about travel and cooking and all kinds of things. But for me personally, if I was to take pictures of a moment, it destroys the moment for me.”

“I really like enjoying my life and sometimes you’re having dinner or doing something with the kids and my wife says, ‘can we take a picture?’ The kids, me, all of us are like, ‘no,’ because you either shoot something or experience it. Any photographer will tell you (that) it’s quite difficult to do both. So, for me, I think it (social media) is a great thing, and who knows I might join it, I don’t have a stand against it at all. It’s just for me, personally, it is too time consuming,” he added.

Saif’s aversion to social media stems from its time-consuming nature. He shared, “I find myself… I sometimes have surfed Instagram and I have spent half-an-hour reading the most inane things and my wife tells me I am not following the right things. I then delete the app because I feel I have wasted a lot of time compared to something I could be reading in a book or doing something more concrete with my time. It is never ending, it can really suck you in and I don’t like that. It’s really dangerous for someone like me and I don’t want to engage in too much negativity, which can also happen, sometimes I just find it is not for me. But having said that I might do it tomorrow, I don’t have a stand.”

Despite the pressure to join social media, Saif enjoys being one of the few holdouts. “The more they tell me I’m the only person not on it, I say, ‘oh! That’s quite cool!'” He expressed concerns about the constant pursuit of likes and followers, stating, “I don’t want to be in that world.”

Saif also revealed that while he is not on social media he is an avid photographer, and his friends and family memebrs often borrow his clicks. He shared, “I love taking pictures. You know, a lot of people want to borrow my pictures for Instagram because I love taking pictures.” However, he’s hesitant to share them publicly, questioning the purpose of social media. “I just feel kind of reticent about sharing them all the time to get followers. Is that the idea to get followers and no dislikes and lots of likes, I don’t think I want to be in that world,” he said.

Saif Ali Khan shared that he remains content observing social media from the sidelines, proud of Kareena’s online success while prioritising his own preferences for a more private, offline life. On the work front Saif was last seen in Adipurush (2023) and will next be seen playing the antagonist Bhaira in NTR Jr and Janhvi Kapoor’s Devara.
