The trailer of Siddharth Anand’s upcoming film, Fighter, starring Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, and Hrithik Roshan, has sparked controversy in Pakistan. Some Pakistani celebrities and Bollywood fans are unhappy with what they see as an aggressive and anti-Pakistan tone in the movie, especially due to dialogues like “India Occupied Pakistan.” Fighter is reportedly based on the 2019 Pulwama attack and shows India’s response in the aftermath of the incident

Pakistani actors like Hania Aamir, Adnan Siddiqui and Zara Noor Abbas took to social media and expressed their disappointment. While Siddharth has not released any statement, he has been observing the tweets. Hania wrote, “So sad and unfortunate to know that there are artists out there in this day and age who are aware of the power that the cinema holds and still go ahead and feed the riff between the two countries. I feel sorry for the artists who try to bridge the gap by trusting their art as a medium.”

Oh !!

Hania’s comment went viral as people highlighted her double standard. One user pointed out how she had previously starred in a movie where the Pakistan Air Force fought against India. Siddharth replied to the user and wrote, ‘Oh.’ He also responded with a thinking face emoji on Hania’s thread.

Users questioned why Pakistani celebrities cared about such issues when Indian stars didn’t seem bothered by similar themes in Pakistani films or reality.

Zara Noor shared a video and said, “It’s so funny to see Hrithik Roshan say that (India owns Kashmir) and Pakistan has occupied Kashmir. Would anyone like to ask Kashmiris about who they serve? Because they serve no one. Kashmiris deserve an independent state, full stop. India needs to move past its entitlement of making Kashmiris slaves. That narrative is too old.” The actor also slammed the makers for copying Top Gun and not doing a ‘better job.’

Once celebrated for love, Bollywood now crafts hate-filled narratives, portraying us as villains. Despite our love for your films, it’s disheartening. Art transcends boundaries; let’s use it to promote love and peace. Two nations, victims of politics, deserve better.

Adnan, who starred in Sridevi’s film ‘Mom’ in 2017, also penned a note. He wrote, “Once celebrated for love, Bollywood now crafts hate-filled narratives, portraying us as villains. Despite our love for your films, it’s disheartening. Art transcends boundaries; let’s use it to promote love and peace. Two nations, victims of politics, deserve better.”

Fighter is an upcoming aerial-drama which also stars Karan Singh Grover and Akshay Oberoi. The film will release in theatres on January 25th.
