After becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan is set to hit theatres in Japan. The movie, currently streaming on Netflix, recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. In addition to Shah Rukh, the movie features Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles, with Deepika Padukone making an extended cameo.
Shah Rukh Khan announced the film’s release in Japan on November 29 via X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “Ek kahani justice ki…vengeance ki…villain aur hero ki… Ek kahani Jawan ki… Aa rahi hai Japan ke theatres mein pehli baar!!! Toh ab reh gaya bas ek sawaal- Ready-ah? (A story of justice…vengeance…villain and hero…A story of Jawan…This is the first show in Japan’s theatres!!! So now only one question remains – Ready-ah?) The fire & action you all loved is making a massy massy massy arrival in Japan! #Jawan hits the screens in Japan on 29th Nov, 2024!”

On September 7, Shah Rukh Khan celebrated the one-year anniversary of Jawan’s release. He praised the film’s director, Atlee, saying, “The film that we made with a lot of heart… has turned one year ‘old’ today… or shall I say one year ‘Jawan’. Without the storytelling, skill and vision of @Atlee_dir , this film wouldn’t have been possible and of course… massy massy massy!!!”
SRK also acknowledge the film’s stars and wrote, “Sending my love to the team that toiled away to make this film what it is — @NayantharaU @VijaySethuOffl , @deepikapadukone , all the Chief’s girls and @RedChilliesEnt !! And thank you to the audiences for accepting our film with such love and happiness!!! #1YearOfJawan.”

Before Jawan, SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which starred NT Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan in the lead roles, was released in Japan to an excellent response. RRR performed exceptionally well, earning over Rs 137 crore at the Japanese box office and running uninterrupted for 220 days. Jawan has grossed over Rs. 1,148.32 crore worldwide, solidifying its status as the highest-grossing film of 2023.
