Actor Rajkummar Rao, for the first time, has reacted to his film Stree 2‘s phenomenal success. The movie also stars Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana in pivotal roles.

At the trailer launch event of his upcoming film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, Rajkummar shared that he felt overwhelmed with all the love that came his way after Stree 2. The horror comedy film, directed by Amar Kaushik, has, so far, raked in Rs 536 crore in India.

Expressing gratitude to the audience for making Stree 2 a hit, Rajkummar Rao said, “We all are very happy that Stree 2 has done so well. With such huge (box office) numbers coming out, it proves that so many people went and watched it. I thank them for their love. I have received a lot of love from the audience. I have received so many congratulatory messages and calls. ”

“I was emotionally very vulnerable when people said that it felt like a personal victory to them. Many people have said that they have felt ‘humari hi jeet hui hai, it is not just your win’. Many of them had attached their journeys with mine and they said that my journey gives them hope. It was overwhelming for me,” he added.

Rajkummar Rao also revealed that just three days after Stree 2 was released in cinemas, he started shooting for his actioner Malik.

He said, “Nothing has really changed for me since. I am still the same person. Three days after the film released, I went and started shooting for Malik. I love what I do and that will never change. Whether my film earns Rs 500 crore, Rs 5000 crore or Rs 100 crore, that does not change (anything) for me at all. Woh film ki kismat hoti hai. You have to do your work with sincerity. I have done that from the very beginning, from my first film till now, and I’ll continue to do the same.”

Rajkummar’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is his fourth release this year after Srikanth, Mr and Mrs Mahi and Stree 2. When asked if he is now eyeing Akshay Kumar’s record of doing back-to-back films, Rajkummar simply said that that’s not the case and that he has grown up looking up to Akshay’s work.

He said, “I have learnt a lot from Akshay sir. He is one of those actors whose films I have watched and learnt a lot from. He is a superstar. You don’t compete with them, you love them. I am his fan. All these people — Shah Rukh (Khan) sir, Salman (Khan) sir, Aamir (Khan) sir, Hrithik (Roshan), Akshay (Kumar) sir, we have watched them on the big screen and learnt a lot from them. They’ll always be my superstars. I’ll always look up to them.”

“In fact I am so middle class, even today that if Akshay sir calls me on the phone, I jump in excitement, show the phone screen to people that he is calling and then answer his calls. It is difficult for me to believe that I am working in the same industry with people I have adored my entire life. So, that competition you are talking about, it’ll never come in my head,” Rajkummar concluded.

Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is set to be released in cinemas on October 11. The film, directed by Raj Shaandilyaa, also stars Archana Puran Singh, Tiku Talsania, Rakesh Bedi, Mallika Sherawat, among others.
