Rapper and songwriter Aditya Prateek Singh, professionally known as Badshah, recently shared how he chose his stage name, which is synonymous with Shah Rukh Khan’s moniker, ‘Badshah of Bollywood.’ He also reflected on his interactions with Shah Rukh, describing him as a “free thinker,” and spoke about his friendship with Shah Rukh’s son, Aryan Khan. Additionally, Badshah revealed that he plays a small role in Aryan’s upcoming web series Stardom.
In an interview with The Lallantop, Badshah recalled his first encounter with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan at an award function. Later, he developed a bond with Shah Rukh and Aryan when the superstar invited him to his Mumbai residence, Mannat, to work on a song for his film Zero. “He had called me to make a song for Zero. Before that, I met him was when he was with Salman Khan. There was an award show and they were hanging out together backstage. That was my first meeting with them. Then, Shah Rukh sir called me to Mannat to make a song for Zero. That is when I spoke to him to the most. I heard him, his words, his wisdom. I met Aryan Khan also,” he said
He added, “He is a free thinker. He is humble and extremely self aware. No means no when he says it and, similarly, yes means yes. He is open about knowing things and not knowing things. He is willing to learn what he doesn’t know and shares what he knows. There is no limitation to his thinking. He likes nights compared to day time. That’s all I know about him.”
Talking about his equation with Aryan, he said, “Aryan is a good friend of mine,” he added, “I feature in his show. I don’t know whether he wants to tell this yet or not, but I have a small role in it.”
When asked how he came up with the stage name Badshah, the rapper explained, “I’ve always been a fan of Shah Rukh Khan, and he’s affectionately called the ‘Badshah of Bollywood.’ He even branded himself that way, especially when his film Badshah was released. I told Honey Singh that I wanted to take on the name, and he said, ‘It suits you. You sleep when you want, and you wake up when you want.’ I like to say I’m worry-free, not careless.”
Badshah also shared Shah Rukh’s reaction when he told him the story behind his stage name. He said, “He was eating when I told him how I decided my stage name and he stopped eating and asked me, ‘Tu bakwas kar raha hai ke sach bola raha hai? (Are you faffing or saying the truth?).’ I think he is aware how much love I have for him.”
Recently, Shah Rukh lent his voice for a voice over in Badshah’s music video for “Ek Tha Raja.”
