Malaika Arora’s father, Anil Arora, reportedly died by suicide on Wednesday morning by jumping from sixth floor of a residential building in Bandra, Mumbai. The actor’s ex-husband Arbaaz Khan and senior police officers were seen at her residence. As per sources, the body has been sent for post-mortem and a probe is underway. The incident reportedly took place at around 10.30 am at their family residence, Ayesha Manor in Mumbai’s Bandra West.

Sources close to Malaika, however, claimed it was an accident. “It’s an accident. We will be sharing the police panchanama once we receive it,” they told indianexpress.com.

Malaika’s parents, Joyce Polycarp and Anil Arora, separated when she was 11. In a past interview with Filmfare, Malaika Arora had opened up about her relationship with her parents, a life event that deeply impacted her and her younger sister, Amrita, who was 6 at the time. Malaika also revealed that their mother was primarily responsible for raising them. Reflecting on those early years, she said, “I had a wonderful childhood, but it wasn’t easy. In fact, in retrospect, the word I would use to describe it is tumultuous. But tough times teach you important lessons too.”

Malaika credits her mother for instilling in her a strong work ethic and the importance of financial independence. “My parents’ separation allowed me to observe my mother through a new and unique lens. I learned a rock-steady work ethic and the value of getting up each morning to do whatever it takes to become fiercely independent. Those early lessons are the cornerstones of my life and professional journey. I am still fiercely independent; I value my freedom and live life on my terms,” she shared.

Malaika’s father was from Punjab while her mother Joyce is a Malayali Christian. He was earlier employed in Merchant Navy. He was hospitalised last year and Malaika and her mother were seen visiting him but the reason for his hospitalisation is not known.
