Amitabh Bachchan‘s recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 had a heartwarming moment when a contestant asked him if he manages to spend any time at home, especially with his wife, actor and politician Jaya Bachchan, as he is almost always shooting for his films and KBC. Bachchan got quit candid while talking about his family and lauded Jaya Bachchan for her commitment towards the family while he was away, working.
When contestant Sumitra Dinesh asked Big B if Jaya ever complained about him not spending enough time with her due to his busy schedule shooting for KBC, Amitabh chuckled and replied, “Oho kya bataye? Yeh joh parivarik prashna puch lete hai na log yaha aake… usmei humko bada kashta hota hai (What should I say? It gets difficult for me when people here ask me questions related to my family).”
Amitabh then reminisced about his early days in the film industry, when he was shooting for three films simultaneously. He recalled how he would work in three different shifts, leaving him little time for his family. “Kayi saal beet gaye aur hum aagaye film udyog mei. Edhar kaam karna shuru kardia. Hamara kaam joh tha woh teen teen shift mei hota tha (Many years passed by and I entered the filmy world. I started working and it used to be in 3 different shifts).”
Even his father, the late Harivansh Rai Bachchan, had once told him that he is working very hard. Bachchan revisited having this conversation with his father. Shared what his poet father had told him, he said “Bole beta tum kaam bahut karte hoh. Hum bole bauji paisa badi mushkil se milta hai (My father told me that I work a lot and I said dad getting money is very difficult).”
Bachchan then took a moment to appreciated his wife Jaya Bachchan’s devotion towards her family and giving her all to their children Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan while they were growing up. He revealed that “Jaya was always supportive and never complained”. Amitabh and Jaya tied the knot in June 1973 and have been married for over 40 years.
