Bollywood actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on Sunday. The news was shared by sources close to the couple.
Deepika Padukone was admitted to Mumbai’s HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on Saturday evening, ahead of the delivery of her first baby. Ranveer and Deepika were spotted arriving at the South Mumbai hospital along with their families.
Deepika-Ranveer’s pregnancy announcement
Deepika and Ranveer announced her pregnancy in February via an Instagram post. This was shortly before they went for the Ambani pre-wedding celebrations in Jamnagar. At the time, Deepika and Ranveer shared an identical post on Instagram which had a collage of baby onesies, baby caps, rattles and baby shoes with the text ‘September 2024’ suggesting that they were expecting the baby in September.

Deepika Padukone was often seen after announcing her pregnancy. She made dazzling appearances as she promoted Kalki 2898 AD and her make-up brand. She also attended Radhika Merchant-Anant Ambani’s wedding with Ranveer. The mental health advocate also shared her self-care routine and advised doing something everyday to take care of one’s physical and mental health.

Deepika and Ranveer started dating each other during the filming of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2013 film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. During an appearance on Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee with Karan, Ranveer said that he felt like they had a spark during their first meeting for the film. Ranveer recalled, “I said you got something on your teeth, she said clean it.” For him, this was their “moment of spark.” He said that when he put his pinky finger in her mouth, he felt a “440 watt jolt.” It was during this chat that Deepika revealed that even though they were “technically allowed” to date others, they kept coming back to one another.

Ranveer and Deepika were “inseparable” during the shoot of Bhansali’s film and said that they would spend all their time with each other. He said that once, while shooting for a kissing scene, when a brick came in through the window, they continued to kiss each other as they were so “oblivious” to their surroundings. He knew she was “the one” six months into dating her. Ranveer and Deepika got engaged in 2015 and kept it hidden from the world for three years.

Ranveer proposed to Deepika in Maldives and while his parents were fully aware that their son is going to propose, Deepika’s parents were not in the loop. He recalled on the chat show, “Just her and me, on a sliver of sand, in the middle of the sea. I was like this is it, I have done it, this is the perfect scenario. I pop the question, gave her the ring, she did not expect it, she got emotional and that was it, she said yes and I felt like the king of the world, and then we were engaged.” Deepika’s parents were shocked when they learnt about it at first, but soon after they were on board.

In November 2018, Deepika and Ranveer got married in Italy in a close knit ceremony. The couple hosted a few wedding receptions in India and shared a few photos from the ceremony on their social media, which they deleted a few years later. On the fifth anniversary of their wedding, the couple shared their wedding video with their fans. Their wedding videographer, Vishal Punjabi told All About Eve, “I guess sometimes, some things are so beautiful, you don’t want to share it with the world. Nazar na lage, as mums would say, and I get that sentiment.”
The couple had a traditional south-Indian wedding and a Sikh wedding along with a few pre-wedding ceremonies.

During an NRI convention in San Jose in 2022, Ranveer had opened up about learning Konkani for their future children and said, “I am in a position where I can understand all of Konkani seamlessly but there is a reason behind this, it’s because when we do have children I don’t want their mother to speak to them in Konkani about me without me understanding.”
Ever since her pregnancy announcement, Deepika has shot for two films. Soon after the pregnancy announcement, Deepika was clicked on the sets of Singham Again where she plays a copy. This is Deepika’s first appearance in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe. Apart from shooting for Rohit’s film, Deepika also filmed for Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD. Nag Ashwin, in an earlier interview with ETimes, revealed that there were two days when Deepika’s “actual child also acted in the movie.”
Deepika and Ranveer’s next release is Singham Again, scheduled to release in November 2024.
