Post the Justice Hema Committee Report, sexual abuse and harassment allegations have been levelled against many prominent Malayalam actors. In what has come as a shocking development on this front, Kerala police have filed a non-bailable case on Nivin Pauly for allegedly sexually assaulting an aspiring actor.
The survivor filed a police complaint in Ernakulam alleging that the actor brought her to Dubai in the pretext of offering a role in a film, and sexually assaulted her in November 2023. It is reported that after receiving the complaint, the police conducted a preliminary investigation before filing the case against Nivin, and five other people, including a film producer. It is said that Nivin is the sixth accused in the crime. The case has been registered by the Oonnukal Police in Ernakulam.

This is the latest revelation in a series of allegations being levelled against Malayalam cinema stars. There are cases already being investigated against the likes of Siddique, Jayasurya, and director Ranjith. The Kerala government has created a Special Investigation Team for this purpose.
The Justice Hema Committee Report has shaken Malayalam cinema to its core with the top brass of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), including Mohanlal, resigning from their posts citing accountability for the issues that surfaced. However, this has created a domino effect in Indian cinema with many strong voices asking for such a report to be made in other languages too. Telugu female stars called for action along with select voices in Tamil cinema hoping that the report would be emulated across the country, without prejudice, to ensure women’s safety and security become paramount.
