The hottest rain song of the time was shot with the actors romancing in ice cold water. The iconic track “Tip Tip Barsa Paani” featuring Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon not only had sizzling chemistry between the two but also, as has now been revealed by the actress, bleeding knees, high fever and a lot of “pain.”
Sung by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan, the chartbuster track from Mohra was filmed on Akshay and Raveena and is still talked about for its melody and sensuality, with Raveena’s saree in the song becoming a pop culture reference point.
None of that was fun, Raveena assured, as she spoke to Galatta India revisiting the track, which was shot for five days. The actor said when Mohra had released, “Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast” was a bigger hit but a lot of hard work and blood went into making “Tip Tip Barsa Paani”.
“When you’re shooting for these rain songs, they don’t give you geyser-heated water. You get freezing cold water from the tanker! If you notice the song, we’re shooting on a construction site and because I was wearing a saree, I couldn’t wear knee pads, couldn’t wear heels because there were stones and nails. If you notice my entry, I’m sliding on my knees! I had bleeding knees, ankles! I had to take a tetanus shot because a rusted nail pierced through my foot.”

The actor said if one views the song—without the context of the pain that went behind filming it—it might look “glamorous” but added that “nothing” was happening there. During Mohra, Akshay and Raveena were a hit pair, who eventually went on to date each other. The former couple also had an engagement.
“It looks all glamourous, you must be thinking, ‘Oh these guys must’ve had a blast’. No we didn’t. There was nothing happening there! It was painful, there were bruises, and just the face was happy. On the second day after repeated cold showers, I got fever, which is how I shot for the next three days,” she added.
During a previous interview with the news agency ANI, Raveena was asked about the Akshay Kumar chapter and her engagement, which she said she had “forgotten” about. The actor had said, “We were a hit pair, during Mohra, and even now, when we bump into each other socially, we all meet, we all chat. Everyone moves on. Girls have been changing their boyfriends every week in colleges, but one engagement that has broken is still stuck to my head, I don’t know why. Everyone moves on, people have divorces, they move on, what’s the big deal?”
On the work front, Akshay Kumar is currently seen on the big screen in the comedy Khel Khel Mein, which has failed to work at the box office. Akshay and Raveena will then be seen together in the comedy Welcome to the Jungle, expected to release next year.
