Rajesh Khanna was one of the biggest stars of the 1970s. His fandom was such that his female fans smeared his car with lipstick, wrote letters in blood and married his photograph. He is even said to be India’s first superstar. He was not just a star in Bollywood, but also had a following in the South despite the language barrier. The actor, however, also witnessed a downfall. “Falling from that height has bruised me and left me internally bleeding,” said the actor. Over time, there were a few attempts at writing a book on the actor. But there has been no concrete biography on the actor. Now, a video of Rajesh’s daughter and author Twinkle Khanna has surfaced online. In the video, a journalist can be heard asking the former actress if she would take up the responsibility of writing her father’s biography, to which she quickly responds with a “No”.

She further explains, “I am interested in stories which have layers to it, which have more ramifications. It is great to write a story on a single person, but for that, there has to be layers and their stories need to have message.” Twinkle’s response attracted many reactions. A user wrote, “In all fairness it would be awkward for a daughter to write the full truth about their father……. Like to write about the ins and outs of her parents love life.”

Others claimed Twinkle Khanna never understood her father. A comment read, “Can Twinkle write anything about Rajesh Khanna ? No. She never understood him, never cared for him, was never close to him. Rajesh was a loner, no family can understand him. His fans were with him and are with him. His family has abandoned his memory and him.”

Even Rajesh Khanna was approached to write his biography. However, he refused to do so. The actor said, “If I tell you the truth about my life, I will have to let down the honour of many. I will not be able to do this.”

He added, “My life has been like a storybook with lots of ups and downs. People only know me from my films and film magazines and I would like them to know the other side of Rajesh Khanna. But I have not been able to make up my mind about a biography because I would want it to be a very honest one, but it would involve naming people and sharing incidents involving others. If I am honest about my life, I might end up hurting a few people. I don’t want to do that.”
