Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut is currently busy promoting her upcoming film Emergency. In a recent interaction, the actor shared how she turned down endorsement deals worth crores from fairness cream brands and declined offers to work with the Khans, as she didn’t want to play second fiddle roles. She aims to prove that a female actor’s career could thrive without relying on the Khans.

Speaking to Raj Shamani, Kangana said, “I have turned down deals worth Rs 10-15 crores because they endorse fairness creams. It is racist. I was like this from the beginning, even before I was successful. I have turned down films with the Khans. But let me be clear, all the Khans have been very kind and nice to me. There’re people who’ve misbehaved with me, but Khans were not one of them.”

She added, “I denied working with them because in their films, the heroines have two scenes and one song. And I wanted to be an A-lister, the top-most actor who hasn’t worked with Khans. I want to do my best for the women who are coming after me. No Khan, Kumar or Kapoor can make you successful. I said no to Ranbir Kapoor and Akshay Kumar films. I didn’t want to be the prototype that a hero can make you successful. It’s not true. I set that example for women.”

Recently, at the trailer launch of Emergency, Kangana Ranaut expressed her interest in directing all three Khans—Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir—in a film. She said, “I would love to direct and produce films featuring all three Khans. I would love to show their talented side, where they can act and they can also look good and, at the same time, do something that is very significant to the society. I would love to make a film like that because I think that they are very talented. They are generating a lot of revenue for the industry and we should be eternally grateful to them. They are engaging with the masses who need that kind of entertainment but I also think that they have a very artistic side of them, which hasn’t been explored much. I would love to explore that.”

Kangana’s Emergency is based on the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Besides playing the lead role, Kangana has also directed and co-produced the film. The movie is set to release in theaters on September 6.
