Former actor Imran Khan opened up about his equation with his uncle, Aamir Khan, and whether he felt comfortable reaching out to him with his personal problems when he was going through a period of tremendous difficulty. He also expressed his admiration for Aamir’s ability to working at a superhuman level, and revealed what he learned from him growing up.

Appearing on the We Are Yuvaa YouTube channel, Imran was asked how influential Aamir was in his life, and he described his uncle as ‘a significant paternal figure’. He continued, “I grew up in a house with Aamir, my other uncle Mansoor, both of whom were very influential figures. As a young man, learning about masculinity, I certainly took a lot of cues from both of them.”

Asked what he meant by that, Imran explained, “Aamir has this great sense of conviction and fearlessness. When he believes that a thing is truthful, nothing will get him to back down from that. He has no fear, in that sense. He has a great, great sense of conviction, which I’ve always admired and appreciated, and I’ve always tried to emulate that.” Imran also spoke highly of Aamir’s tenacity, especially in the face of great odds. He said, “I’ve worked with him up close and personal. It’s staggering. Everyone else will collapse and fall down from absolute exhaustion, and he keeps going and going and going.”

Imran added, “I’ve worked double shifts with him, where he has shot through the day and I’ve shot through the day, and then we’ve shot through the night for various promotional things. And I’m dead, exhausted, done. But he’s (fine), and he’s back off to set. It’s terrifying to watch him work.” But Aamir’s workaholic nature made him slightly unavailable as well. Imran admitted that he didn’t open up about his mental health struggles with his uncle, mainly because Aamir was busy with work.

Imran said, “For the closeness and the consideration that I have for Aamir, he’s a very busy guy. So, we would meet infrequently, he would be eyeball-deep in three films. So, the conversations wouldn’t quite have the chance to get there. Life is such. It was ultimately my mom who was able to help me…” Recently, actor Ranbir Kapoor spoke about a conversation that he had with Aamir, where the superstar tearfully admitted that he hadn’t taken care of personal relationships over the years, in his effort to prioritise his career.
