Tiku Talsania, best known for his memorable roles in ’90s hits like Andaz Apna Apna, Coolie No 1 and Jodi No 1, recently shared his experience working with prolific filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Tiku recalled Bhatt’s eccentric way of working and how he would often make last-minute changes.

Tiku explained the extent of Bhatt’s impromptu decisions with an anecdote from his time working with the filmmaker. He recalled, “Once he asked me where he should keep the camera. He said, ‘Tu bata camera kaha lagana hai? (You tell me where to place the camera)’ I just looked at him and said, ‘I don’t know.’ But he insisted that I tell him; so I told him where to put it and he said, ‘Yahi toh lagana tha mujhe (I too was thinking of putting it here).'”

He also shared how Bhatt once cast him in a film on a whim. “Once he just called me to meet him casually, and as I was walking towards him, he looked at me and said, ‘You are doing this role.’ I was like, what role? That’s what Bhatt sahab is.”

Tiku Talsania was recently seen in the Gujarati film Vaar Tahevaar. In an earlier interview with The Indian Express, the actor called himself ‘slightly jobless’ and revealed that he was giving auditions to bag roles. He said, “Gone are the times where there used to be formula films with cabaret dance, two love songs, and the comedian coming and doing his bit and going away. That all has changed now. It’s become story-oriented. So unless and until you become a part of the story, or you get to play a character of a person whose story is knitted with the story, you don’t get work. I am slightly jobless right now (laughs). I want to work, but the right kind of roles are not coming my way.”

He added, “I am seeking work regularly. I have an agent and a team looking out for scripts and plays. They let me know about it, and if I am required to go for an audition, I go for an audition. Things have changed over a period of time, but one needs to be patient. Since Covid, the working principle has been disrupted. Now people are becoming more sharper and progressive. It’s become beautiful and I like the way we have to approach work now. I am waiting for people to call me. Also, I am sending out feelers that I am an actor looking for work. So, if there is a suitable role, then I’d love to do it. That’s the kind of approach we have.”
