Anurag Kashyap, who was recently seen in Tamil film Maharaja, recently opened up about how Hindi film industry focuses on star power and said that this is one of the reasons as to why southern film industries are doing better than Bollywood. The filmmaker-actor praised the recently released film Kill and said that Bollywood generally focuses on “star power” than “telling a real story.”

Anurag Kashyap, as quoted by The Hindu, praised Fahadh Faasil starrer Aavesham and pointed out how the makers of the film didn’t hesitate in casting three influencers in key roles. He said, “In Bollywood, they would fill these roles with big stars, focusing on star power rather than telling a real story.”

He added that Bollywood often falls into the trap of repeating formulas. But added that when they go out of the box, they make some wonderful films. He praised last year’s 12th Fail and this year’s Laapataa Ladies. Talking about these films, the filmmaker said, “It only works when something original comes out.” Talking about original content, Kashyap was also all praises for the recently released action drama Kill. He said, “Kill is an action movie but still very unique in itself.” He also spoke about his film Maharaja getting a lot of criticism for its violence, which was also the case with Kill.
