Ulajh box office collection day 1: Janhvi Kapoor‘s spy thriller Ulajh, with seasoned actors Roshan Mathew and Gulshan Deviah in ensemble cast, did not open to great reviews on Friday and it looks like the film’s opening day collections were reflective of the same. The film could only manage to collect Rs 1.1 crore on its first day as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

This is Janhvi’s fifth film in theatres since her career started in 2018 and her second theatrical release this year after Mr and Mrs Mahi. Her worst opening in theatres was Mili which only made Rs 50 lakh on its first day. Mr and Mrs Mahi, which was back by Dharma Productions, and starred Rajkummar Rao, managed to bring in Rs 7 crore on opening day.

Ulajh, on Friday, had an overall occupancy of 18 percent with almost 20.78 percent people catching its night show. In Mumbai, where there were 293 shows, the occupancy observed was 13.75 percent. In Delhi and NCR, the occupancy was 11.75 percent with 343 shows. Ulajh got lesser number of shows as it clashed with Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s Auron Main Kahan Dum Tha, which has only made Rs 2 crore.

Both the films are facing competition from Deadpool and Wolverine that released in cinemas last week and is running successfully on its second weekend. On its second Friday, Deadpool and Wolverine made Rs 4.25 crore, which was more than Ulajh and Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha combined.

Ulajh has not managed to create enough buzz amongst moviegoers which will surely impact its collections over the weekend. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, Ulajh recorded underwhelming pre-sales at the ticket windows. The Janhvi Kapoor led thriller reportedly sold less than 750 tickets across the top 3 national chains. Another report by the publication says that the film will struggle to get past the Rs 3 crore mark over the weekend.

Hindi cinema doesn’t have many female-led films in the first place and Ulajh’s performance is pretty much on par with Kangana Ranaut-starrer Tejas which released in 2023. Kangana’s film made Rs 1.2 crore on its opening day and made Rs 4.1 crore during its theatrical run.
