The early reviews from the New York premiere of Deadpool and Wolverine are out, and they won’t be a surprise any Marvel fan: It is already billed as one of the most entertaining superhero films of recent times. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the titular role, Deadpool and Wolverine had its world premiere days ahead of its July 26 release.

Directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, Free Guy fame), the film features Reynolds and Jackman as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively, alongside Emma Corrin, and Matthew Macfadyen. The film follows the Time Variance Authority (TVA), which pulls Deadpool from his quiet life and sets him on a mission with Wolverine. The first reactions of the much-awaited R-rated superhero film have unanimously dubbed it as a solid comeback for Marvel Studios.

“DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE feels miraculous. A high energy ode to superhero cinema past that goes beyond nostalgia into kid in a candy store madness, the Ryan Reynolds/Hugh Jackman is everything you wanted and more, despite some grating toilet humor,” wrote James Preston Poole of Discussing film.

Next Best Picture’s Matt Neglia called the film “the shot in the arm the MCU so desperately needed.” In his tweet, they wrote, “Vulgar, violent, scathing, and at times, even touching, this R-rated romp holds nothing back delivering on everything its fans want with maximum effort. It even manages to pay respect to the Fox era’s legacy while ushering in a new one for Marvel.

“It feels damn great to see Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine and his hilarious banter with the pitch-perfect Ryan Reynolds is the heart of what makes this entertaining film work over its convoluted multiverse plot.”

“Shocker to no one that the Deadpool and Wolverine reactions are calling it marvels best since ‘Endgame’. We are so back,” a tweet read.

Another review on X read, “Deadpool & Wolverine is an insane, bombastic Marvel wet dream. Plenty of surprises but with epic action, excessive violence, and relentless humor (most of which landed for me). Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds overdelivered. It’s a lot to process. I had a blast.”

Writer-columnist Dan Marcus called Deadpool and Wolverine the “best Marvel film in many years” and added, “It’s funny, violent as hell, and has a really big heart. The scene where Hugh Jackman looks to the camera and says, “LOGAN was never good to begin with” elicited gasps from my audience. Cannot recommend this enough.”

The Deadpool and Wolverine world premiere was also attended by Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Shawn Levy and producer Kevin Feige among others. Deadpool & Wolverine releases on July 26 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadpool and Wolverine is tracking for a massive $165 million-plus domestic opening weekend, which would mark the biggest R-rated bow of all time.
