After unveiling multiple posters, the makers of the Dhanush-starrer Raayan finally released the film’s trailer on Tuesday. The trailer showcases Dhanush in a menacing role and also features his Captain Miller co-star Sandeep Kishan, along with SJ Suryah, Prakash Raj, Aparna Balamurali, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. Raayan also marks the 50th film of Dhanush’s career.

The trailer reveals Dhanush in a powerful, intense avatar as Raayan. It begins with a wounded Raayan sitting while a family member pours water over his head, with blood streaming down his body. This is followed by a scene of Raayan’s elder brother explaining how the most dangerous animal in the jungle is not a lion or a tiger, but a wolf. He continues, “If they face each other one-on-one, the lion will beat the wolf. But a wolf is very intelligent. They come as a pack, round the lion up and then destroy it.” This is interspersed with visuals of goons running with swords in their hands.

The trailer also gives glimpses of Raayan’s rival, played by SJ Suryah, and features Prakash Raj in what seems to be a pivotal role. Dhanush reappears toward the end of the trailer, going on a relentless killing spree, with Sandeep Kishan and Kalidas Jayaram by his side. The trailer concludes with AR Rahman’s melodious tune.

Previously, the posters depicted Dhanush in a rustic, macho avatar, standing in front of a painting of the goddess Kali. Dhanush posed in such a way that Kali’s several hands appear to be his, creating a striking visual.

The movie features music by AR Rahman and is bankrolled by Sun Pictures. This film marks Dhanush’s second directorial venture. He first directed Pa Paandi, which starred Rajkiran in the lead role, with Dhanush making an extended cameo as the younger version of Rajkiran’s character. Now, with Raayan, Dhanush is once again taking on a full-fledged directorial role, in addition to starring in the film.

Om Prakash is the cinematographer of Raayan, while Prasanna GK is in charge of editing. Besides Raayan, Dhanush is also involved in Kubera, directed by Sekhar Kammula. Additionally, he is directing another project titled Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, a multi-starrer romantic drama.

Raayan will hit theatres on July 26.
