Actor Ameesha Patel had recently claimed that she and Gadar 2 co-star Sunny Deol were “semi ghost directors” on the film, which was helmed by Anil Sharma, and went on to become one of the most successful films of 2023. Now, in a new interview, Ameesha has said that she wouldn’t claim that she “ghost-directed the entire film” but continued to say that she and Sunny “corrected crucial parts” and ghost-directed some portions of the film.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Ameesha said, “I wouldn’t claim to have ghost-directed the entire film, but we corrected crucial parts. Portions were ghost-directed, [including] many important parts that were key factors to making Gadar a soulful experience for the audience.” In the earlier chat with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha had insisted that she and her business partner Kunal Ghoomer, along with Sunny, gave some necessary input that ultimately made the film better. Now, she said that she and Sunny “took charge” so corrections could be made in the Anil Sharma film.

“So, when errors were being made, all three of us, my business partner Kunal Ghoomer, Sunny Deol and I, stepped in. We [Deol and Patel], came out of the comfort zone of just being behind the camera and we took charge,” she said. Ameesha implied that the track featuring Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur was being given more importance and said that some of her portions with Sunny were left out on the editing table.

“A lot of things that we shot was being edited out, that we later fought to be put back. It [the film] was imbalanced in a certain way and we brought back that balance, and put the flavour [of Gadar] that was missing, back [in it],” she said and added, “Today, when people see the result, the box office numbers, they know whatever we did was for the good of the film not for the good of an individual. There were no hidden agendas in any of our hearts. Creative differences are allowed and should be.”

When asked about her differences with director Anil Sharma, Ameesha Patel said that they would communicate through assistant directors even when they shot for the first film back in 2001, and mentioned that the same has continued till date. She also added that if the director offered her Gadar 3, she would be “open to working with him”.

In an earlier chat with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha had said, “There were a lot of corrections made in Gadar 2 by Sunny and me to make it what it was because it was being steered in a direction that we were unhappy with. We did a lot of reshoots for it and a lot of editing on our part.” She added that there was a lot of “creative discomfort that Sunny and I both had, and the journey was not an easy one. We both did a lot of editing, reshooting.” She also claimed, “Sunny and me were almost like semi ghost directors on that.”

After the success of Gadar 2, there has been chatter about Gadar 3 but no concrete announcement has been made yet.
