Emraan Hashmi has been in the movie business for two decades now and while he has appeared in many successful films, he has never been a favourite in the awards circuit. In a recent interview, when Emraan was asked about award functions, he laughed and shared that he gets a “physical reaction at award ceremonies.”

Emraan shared an incident where going to an award function literally gave him a headache and said, “I remember the last time I went for an award ceremony I actually, I had a headache and I asked for a Tylenol. I needed it. I actually took a Tylenol.” The Showtime actor said that he never wanted to win awards, and was happy with the kind of love he was getting from the audience. He also acknowledged that awards are seen as a transaction and he never had any intention of getting into it.

Emraan also mentioned that he never “yearned for it” and added, “I never wanted it so it’s not something that even figured in my consciousness. For people who love it, they want to decorate their shelf in their living room, if that’s your jam then yeah, go for it. It’s not my thing. I have never wanted it.”

In a recent interview with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, Emraan spoke about the culture of award functions and spoke about the barter system that goes on behind the scenes. He said, “I wouldn’t want to diss awards, but if someone wants to decorate their living room by dancing, all power to them. But I can’t pat myself on the back and say that I’ve delivered a good performance, because it’s a lie. You should win if you’ve done well. What’s the point of winning if it’s going to be a barter deal?”

Emraan has gotten nominated for his work in films like Gangster, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, The Dirty Picture, Shanghai among others but he has never won an award.
