Netflix on Thursday debuted the trailer for its upcoming murder mystery series The Perfect Couple, starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber alongside a diverse ensemble that also includes Indian actor Ishaan Khatter. Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother makes a quick but memorable appearance in the new trailer, which teases the peril in paradise premise of the show, based on Elin Hilderbrand’s bestselling novel.
The six-part series is directed by acclaimed Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier, best known for Bird Box, the original The Night Manager series, and The Undoing. The Perfect Couple is set in the idyllic seaside retreat of Nantucket, where a host of wealthy characters congregate ahead of a wedding. But when a dead body appears on the beach, everyone becomes a suspect. The teaser has hints of Kidman’s own Big Little Lies, and the genre classic Broadchurch.

Alongside Kidman and Schreiber, The Perfect Couple also stars The White Lotus alum Meghann Fahy, Jack Reynor, Dakota Fanning, Bad Sisters star Eve Hewson, and in a quick appearance that warrants his special title card, Ishaan Khatter. The actor is seen in the buff for a second, as he turns around in the shower and looks at someone who seems to have interrupted him. Ishaan made his film debut with Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Cloud. He then made his Bollywood debut with the Dharma Productions film Dhadak, and has since starred in films such as Khaali Peeli and Pippa. He also appeared in a cameo in the star-studded Netflix film Don’t Look Up, which featured Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the lead roles. Ishaan’s sister-in-law, Mira Rajput, took to social media to hype his achievements. Sharing the trailer, she wrote, “Proud of you. You won brother.”
In an earlier interview with PTI, Ishaan spoke about his foray into Hollywood, and praised Kidman and the rest of the cast. “It’s just a great opportunity. I taped my audition and they liked it which is why they called me I guess,” he said.
The show’s official synopsis reads, “The Perfect Couple follows Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson), a bride marrying into one of Nantucket’s wealthiest families. The groom’s mother Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman), a famous novelist, spares no expense on the high-society wedding. But, when a dead body appears on the beach, everyone’s Champagne dreams quickly vanish and are replaced by suspicion. As secrets bubble up to the surface, an investigation takes hold that feels plucked from one of Greer’s books.” The show will be released on September 5.
