Both Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and Telugu star Mohan Babu began their careers around the same time in the ’70s and have since become iconic figures with massive fan followings in their respective film industries. At the same time, the two also share a deep and enduring friendship that has lasted for decades.

Now, a photo has surfaced online showing the two stars sharing an adorable moment on a flight en route to Hyderabad. Babu had recently arrived in Chennai to attend Tamil actor Sarathkumar’s daughter Varalaxmi’s wedding reception. After the event, the actor returned to Hyderabad with Rajinikanth, who was heading there for the filming of his upcoming movie.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mohan Babu posted a photo showing him sitting next to Rajinikanth, who has one arm around Babu’s shoulder and the other holding the actor’s chin. The candid shot appears to have been taken while the friends were sharing a light moment.

On Thursday, a video featuring the two of them exiting the Hyderabad airport together also surfaced on social media, winning the hearts of fans. Pedarayudu (1995) was the last film in which Rajini and Babu shared the screen. Incidentally, this also remains Rajini’s last proper Telugu film to date.

Reports indicate that Rajinikanth is in Hyderabad to shoot for director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ambitious film Coolie. A week ago, Kanagaraj shared a photo of himself with Rajinikanth in costume and makeup and captioned it, “Look test for Coolie. On floors from July.”

Tentatively titled Thalaivar 171, the project’s title was unveiled in April along with an announcement teaser. Kanagaraj had earlier said that his Rajinikanth project has nothing to do with his cinematic universe, comprising films like Vikram, Kaithi, and Leo. Hence, Coolie will be the second standalone movie in his repertoire after Maanagaram.
