Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who now thinks the industry pays him well, was once working for almost Rs 1,000 a day. In a recent interview, the actor recalled working on Sarfarosh and shared how he was surprised to see Aamir on the set. The Gangs Of Wasseypur actor also revealed his salary for his role in Sanjay Dutt starrer Munna Bhai MBBS.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Nawazuddin Siddiqui recalled how he bagged a role in Aamir Khan’s 1999 film Sarfarosh. He recalled, “I received a role in Sarfarosh. They told me, please come to Filmistan. I happened to reach Film City.” When he finally reached the correct place, he didn’t know that he would be acting with Aamir.

Recalling his first meeting with Aamir Khan, the Rautu Ka Raaz actor said, “So I was finally there. I had a small role in the film Sarfarosh. In the entire script, I could read ACP Rathore, I was like, ‘Who is this Rathore?’ They were like you mind your business, you learn your lines. I was speculating that it must be Aamir Khan. I finally went after learning my dialogues. My clothes were all torn, and there were stains all over it. And then suddenly Aamir Khan appeared before me. I started to stammer after seeing him.”

“Luckily, my dialogue and characters was more or less the same, it was of a scared guy. Now, I am scared for real, I had Aamir Khan standing in front of me. I am stammering. People thought, ‘Nawazuddin is doing an amazing job’. Nobody knew I was nervous. That’s how it all happened and the scene was shot. Everybody started to applaud me for my job. How do I tell them I was scared for real?”, he added.

Nawazuddin then recalled how his performance made people believed he was a real life criminal. “When people saw the film, they thought the makers have cast an actual criminal, maybe have cast a robber or somebody. A lot of people told this to me. So when I used to go to other production houses, they used to ask me, ‘what work have you done before?’ I used to be like, ‘Sarfarosh’, it was a megahit. They used to be shocked and ask, what did you do in Sarfarosh? Then I used to narrate my shot to them and they used to be like, ‘Oh, so it was you?’ I said, ‘yes’. They were like, ‘Unbelievable, it seemed like they had cast some real criminal in the film.'”

He also recalled his time on Munnabhai MBBS and said that he was paid fairly well for that. “For my role in Munna Bhai MBBS, I got paid well. Big names were associated with it, they had good money. I was paid well. I think I earned around Rs 20k to 22k for my role. Other roles used to pay from 1k to 5k. We used to go crazy, when we used to get paid Rs 5k. We used to be extremely happy.”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Rautu Ka Raaz is currently streaming on ZEE5. It released on June 28.
