Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s performance in Netflix’s Maharaj has earned him a lot of appreciation from critics and viewers. The young actor said he has “miles to go and lots to improve upon” as he thanked the audience for watching his period drama film backed by Yash Raj Films.

After weeks of protests against its release, Netflix dropped the film Maharaj on their platform on Saturday. Maharaj was originally scheduled to release on June 14. However, just hours before it was meant to drop on the digital platform, a stay order was issued by the Gujarat High Court delaying the release. It then released on Saturday, a week later. Junaid, in a statement, said that he is humbled by the positive reviews that are coming his way and is thrilled that people are getting to watch his debut worldwide.

He said, “I cannot explain in words what I’m feeling right now. Maharaj has been a long and wild journey for me, but all’s well that ends well I guess. Maharaj was made with a lot of love and respect and passion and I’m glad that the film and my performance is striking a chord with audience at large.”

“I know I have miles to go and lots to improve upon. I just hope I get a cast and crew as supportive in all my future work,” added Junaid.

Maharaj is based on true incidents that took place in 1862. The film follows the journey of one of India’s forgotten social reformers, Karsandas Mulji. Directed by Sidharth P Malhotra, the movie also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari in pivotal roles.
