“This was the season’s best moment. What madness,” Kapil Sharma exclaimed as he concluded Season 1 of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The comedian and his team’s joy was palpable as they were confident that despite delivering a mix of dull and droll moments this season, they ended it with a bang.

If Kapil saved the best for last, let’s break tradition and dive into the highlight of the show first. The Grand Finale didn’t feature multiple sketches; instead, the makers saved an elaborate sketch for the finale. It starred Sunil Grover as Salman Khan and Krushna Abhishek as Shah Rukh Khan, with Kiku Sharda hilariously embodying Rakhee Gulzar, repeatedly calling out to “Karan Arjun”. The sketch revolved around these three characters forming a dysfunctional family, where the sons were fed up with their mother’s constant demands.

Watching Sunil imitate Salman from his Bigg Boss hosting days was pure comedic and acting genius. Even with minimal lines in the sketch, his mimicry of Salman, complete with his signature line, “I don’t like this s*** man,” had the audience in stitches. As Sunil walked and talked in character as Salman without holding back, Kartik Aaryan couldn’t help but get caught up in the moment, pounding his foot on the ground with laughter.

Complimenting Sunil Grover’s acting prowess was Krushna Abhishek’s madness, using Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jhoome Jo Pathaan” hook step as his comedic weapon, causing a riot of laughter. Several times during his act, he had to break character because his fellow comedians couldn’t stop cracking up at his over-the-top portrayal of SRK. This act brought back the good old days of Kapil Sharma and his crew, where even a moderately funny skit turned into a comedy goldmine thanks to their perfect timing and hilarious antics.

Since it was the last episode of Season 1, fans were eagerly hoping for Kapil to don one of his outrageous costumes and crack them up. Instead, the comedian stuck to the interview format and let his team take the comedy reins.

The rest of the show had Kapil Sharma and his audience enjoying Kartik Aaryan’s childhood secrets, shared by his no-holds-barred mom, Mala. Though Kartik was the star guest of the Grand Finale, it was his mother who was the real star of the show. Inviting the Chandu Champion actor’s mother was a stroke of genius by Kapil’s team. Her candid stories prompted Kartik to drop his starry reserve and join in on the fun. For Mala, she was simply a mom first and a Bollywood star’s mom second. Like any typical Indian mother, she had no qualms about sharing every mischievous detail of Kartik’s childhood. While this might have been embarrassing for the actor, it left his fans delighted and in fits of laughter.

The season finale of The Great Indian Kapil Show also saw Kapil playfully ribbing his teammates and fondly recalling their sketches from the past 13 episodes. As we chuckled along with the flashback clips, it was evident that Kapil’s comedy crew expertly wove their magic, allowing the comedian to dazzle the guests while they handled the task of keeping the audience in stitches. While their efforts were top-notch, the show’s writers will need to conjure up wittier sketches to keep us eagerly awaiting Season 2.
