After the wedding invitation of Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal was leaked online on Thursday, her father Shatrughan Sinha has said that Sonakshi “has the right to choose her companion.” The veteran actor made it clear that he was “neither confirming nor denying” the news of her wedding but said that she would always have his blessings.

Calling Sonakshi the “apple of his eye”, Shatrughan told The Times of India that she is his only daughter and is very close to him. He also said that “if” his daughter is getting married, then he would support her decision. “Sonakshi has the right to choose her companion, and I will be the happiest father on her wedding day,” he said.

On Thursday morning, Sonakshi and Zaheer’s wedding invitation was leaked online which said that the couple was going to host a reception in Mumbai on June 23. In the digital invitation, which is accompanied by a voice note from both Sonakshi and Zaheer, the couple talk about celebrating their union after being together for seven years. The couple has never discussed their relationship openly until now.

In an earlier chat with Times Now, Shatrughan had said that kids don’t seek their parents’ permission to get married but only inform them. “All I can say is, aaj kal ke bachche consent nahin lete maa-baap ke, sirf inform karte hain (Nowadays, children don’t seek permission; they simply inform their parents). We are waiting to be informed,” he said. Sonakshi’s brother Luv Sinha had also claimed that he didn’t know anything about the wedding. Talking to ETimes, he said that he had “no involvement in the matter.”

Earlier, a friend of the couple told indianexpress.com, “From what I know, they may have already had a registered wedding, or may do so on the morning of June 23. But there’s not going to be any elaborative wedding as such, just a party.”
