For Virat Kohli, cricketer and former captain of the Indian team, prioritising feelings of relaxation, centredness and peace is crucial and his holiday home in Alibaug perfectly embodies these sentiments. “A holiday home should be one that gives you the feeling of home away from away,” the cricketer said as he gave a tour of his and Anushka Sharma’s newly constructed holiday home in Alibaug, a coastal town south of Mumbai.

A notable feature of the house is its deliberate lack of a television or other entertainment sources in the living room, making it exclusively reserved for conversations. “I really value and cherish having meals together as a family. To be very honest, I did not do enough of that as a kid myself,” he told Architectural Digest India, as he showed it the dining room at his home.

“When you are part of so much going on all the time and things are so hectic on the outside, you always want to get away as much as possible and Alibaug allows us to do that,” he added while playing with his pet dog.

Mentioning that his favourite part of the house is its outdoors, Kohli, however, noted that he is never on a proper holiday as he follows a fixed diet and training routine even when on vacation.

“Family, for me, is of the top priority. I know I am busy playing cricket; but I always want to just get back home as soon as possible. Work is a part of life that one needs to balance. I think we get it wrong the other way around a lot of times; we try to balance life with work. So, I am in that space now where work is a small part of my life which I am trying to balance and not the other way around,” he observed and signed off by saying, “A home is an extension of one’s personality.”

According to Architectural Digest India, the house is built over a 10,000-square-foot plot and the Californian Konkan-style four-bedroom villa celebrates “raw luxury”.

“An unmissable characteristic is the use of natural materials such as pristine stones, exotic Italian marbles, raw travertines, and Turkish limestones. Furthermore, what really stands out in the home is its integration of biophilic principles,” the report added.

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma married in 2017 and have a daughter, Vamika.
