Actors Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan made their debut in the movies around the same time and back in those days, the two actors were frequently pitted against each other. Many fans of the actors would remember the Koffee with Karan episodes from the time where each celebrity was asked to choose one of the two actors as the more promising one, or the one they felt was more skilled at his craft. Now, Imran has opened up about those constant comparisons that would leave an “unpleasant aftertaste” and how he and Ranbir would often check in on each other after “ugly things” were said about them.

In a chat with India Today, Imran spoke about the times when he was frequently compared to Ranbir and said that he actually never bought into all of that, and neither did Ranbir. “It’s unfortunate that it would always leave a very unpleasant aftertaste because that’s not how I viewed it and from my conversations with Ranbir back then, he never got into that thing either,” he said.

Imran Khan said that from his conversations with Ranbir Kapoor, he could decipher that the Saawariya actor was very involved with his work, and was not interested in indulging in idle gossip. He shared, “My recollection of him is that he was also very… He took the craft very seriously. He is a cinephile. And he was also not engaging in that thing. This is the spicy stuff that they like to talk about in the gossip magazines so it leaves an unpleasant aftertaste but if neither of us are buying into it, then it doesn’t come into that part. I recall here and there a couple of particularly ugly things would come out and we would always make it a point to kind of reach out and say ‘Listen, aisa aisa hua hai, are we cool?'”

Ranbir made his debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2007 and Imran made his debut with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008.
