Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan was saddened after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) final, held on Sunday. The legendary actor shared his disappointment on his blog, expressing empathy for SRH’s co-owner, Kavya Maran.
In his blog post, the Piku actor congratulated Shah Rukh Khan’s team, KKR, for their victory but mentioned he was ‘disappointed’ with SRH’s loss. He lauded SRH as one of the best teams of the season and conveyed his sadness upon seeing Kavya in tears after the defeat.

For those who missed it, KKR triumphed over SRH by eight wickets in Chennai to claim the IPL 2024 title. In the aftermath, Kavya, the CEO of SRH, was seen at the stands, visibly shaken. Although the 32-year-old applauded KKR, she turned away from the cameras to hide her tears, a moment captured in a viral video.

In his blog entry dated Sunday, May 26, the Deewar star wrote, “The IPL Final is over and KKR have WON a most convincing victory. SRH were simply outplayed. Disappointing in many ways because SRH is a good team and one has seen very grand performances over the days when they have played other matches.”

Addressing Kavya, the veteran actor continued, “But what was most touching to observe was the pretty young lady, the owner of SRH, in the Stadium, got emotional after the loss and broke into tears, turning her face away from the cameras, so as not to display her emotion. I felt bad for her !! Never mind. Tomorrow is another day. My dear (sic).”
The IPL final drew a host of celebrities, including SRK and his family — Gauri Khan, Suhana Khan, Aryan Khan, and AbRam Khan. Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, and SRK’s manager, Pooja Dadlani, were also spotted at the stadium. Mr & Mrs Mahi actors Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao attended the match.
Amitabh is eagerly anticipating the release of his upcoming film Kalki: 2898 AD, alongside Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. Directed by Nag Ashwin, after numerous delays, the sci-fi film is slated to hit theatres on June 27, 2024, with the veteran actor portraying the character Ashwatthama.
