Filmmaker Sikander Bharti, known for helming Bollywood films from late ’80s to the mid ’90s, passed away at the age of 60 on Friday. The filmmaker was cremated on Saturday in the presence of family and friends. His last directorial was Govinda-starrer Rangeela Raja.

According to an India Today report, the filmmaker’s funeral procession left from his residence Andheri in the morning and his last rites were performed at 11 am at the Oshiwara crematorium in Jogeshwari West.

Sikander Bharti is known for helming films like Ghar Ka Chiraag starring Rajesh Khanna, Chunky Pandey and Neelam; Akshay Kumar-headlined Zaalim; Chunky Panday-starrer Police Wala; and Do Fantoosh, starring Amjad Khan and Shakti Kapoor.

The filmmaker worked with wide ranging actors in the industry, from Rajesh Khanna to Govinda, and made films across genres, including action, drama and comedy. Sikander Bharti also helmed movies like Rupaye Dus Karod, Bhai Bhai, Sar Utha Ke Jiyo, and Dand-Nayak.

Listed as his last film, Rangeela Raja was a 2019 comedy film which featured Govinda in a double role. The film was written and produced by Pahlaj Nihalani. Sikander Bharti is reportedly survived by his wife, Pinky, and their three children, Sipika, Yuvika, and Sukrat.
