The official Instagram account of The Academy has surprised Indian fans yet again. Filmmaker Abhishek Varman’s 2019 period drama Kalank got a shoutout from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as it featured its popular track “Ghar More Pardesiya” from the film on its Instagram page. The Academy shared a video of actor Alia Bhatt dancing to the beautiful Pritam melody from the film which was backed by Karan Johar.

Kalank also starred Varun Dhawan and Madhuri Dixit, both of whom also feature in the clip posted on the Instagram page. The song was sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Vaishali Mhade with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The song was choreographed by Remo D’Suza.

Fans were naturally surprised at the shoutout for a film like Kalank, which was panned critically and was also a commercial failure upon its release. “DAMN! Kalank made it to the Academy 😶😍😆,” wrote a user while another commented, “This choreography is ICONIC 🔥😍❤️ Alia the global icon 😍😍.”

Fans also couldn’t help but notice how The Academy had previously featured another Shreya Ghoshal song, “Deewani Mastani” from Bajirao Mastani which had Deepika Padukone putting up a masterful performance in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial. “I think The academy is a big fan of Shreya Ghoshal,” a user commented. “Another song by @shreyaghoshal to be featured on The Academy page! Heavenly voice🫰🏻✨,” another wrote.

The Academy shoutout for Alia Bhatt comes weeks after the actor made global headlines with her Met Gala appearance, where she wore a Sabyasachi saree. Last year, Alia Bhatt also made her international debut with the spy actioner Heart of Stone.

On the work front, Alia Bhatt is awaiting the release of her next, Jigra. The action film is gearing to release later this year, after which she will begin Love and War, the Bhansali directorial starring her actor husband Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
