Actor Manoj Bajpayee recalled his wife Shabana Raza’s reaction to him doing The Family Man, which she initially perceived as a step down from the kind of projects that he would normally do. In an interview, the actor implied that his wife didn’t fully understand the impact that streaming was making around the world, and that she expressed concern when he told her that he’d agreed to doing the show.

Manoj is currently filming the third season of the Prime Video series. Appearing on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, the actor said that he went through a ‘saade saati’ – seven and a half years of misfortune – before rebounding in a major way with commercially successful films such as Satyamev Jayate and Baaghi 2, and then following them up with The Family Man. “When I was doing season one, my wife asked with concern, ‘Is everything alright? Why are you doing a series?’ I told her, ‘Shabana, it’s a big thing in the US, and it’s going to peak here as well’.”

Manoj continued, “But Shabana could not understand. She asked, ‘You’re not doing this for money, are you? We’re very happy, you don’t need to do things that you don’t want to’. I told her that I’m not doing this for money, and that this is a very good show and shows are doing very well all over the world. We shot two seasons, and then the pandemic happened, and the pandemic changed everything.”

Previously, the actor had confessed that his wife didn’t appreciate some of his professional choices and that she felt ‘humiliated’ after watching one of his films. “It was a bad film, bad film. After the film she called me and I asked how she liked the film, and she said, ‘Stop doing films for money. We are not so desperate that you did it for money. It was embarrassing, I felt insulted, humiliated in the theatre, don’t ever do it, please! You are good at stories and characters, please choose them, not these films, you don’t need to prove anything else’,” he shared with Janice Sequeira.
