Shekhar Suman, who was recently seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi, has opened up about his character’s oral sex scene in the carriage with Manisha Koirala’s Mallikajaan. In a new interview, Shekhar said that he couldn’t even tell his wife what he had shot that day and asked her that she should just watch the final product when the show comes out.

In a chat with Pinkvilla, Shekhar said that the audience is slowly starting to understand the pathos of the scene that highlights the dilemma of a nawab who is starting to lose his social standing with the British taking over and is also losing his finances because of his association with the courtesans, but is stuck in a tight spot. “People are slowly understanding the carriage scene and are appreciating it . The pathos of the nawab that’s hidden inside it. The way he is being treated by circumstances, some created by Britishers and some by the tawaifs. He is hanging in the middle,” he shared.

When speaking about his way of pleasuring himself, Shekhar said that he couldn’t even tell his wife Alka what he had performed that day. “I couldn’t even tell my wife what he is doing. When I came back from the shoot, she said you did a scene and you are not telling me about it. I said ‘voh batane layak hai hi nahi aur karke dikhane layak toh bilkul bhi nahi. Voh tum seedha hi dekh lena’ (It’s not worth telling and not absolutely not worth being perfomed again. You just watch it.)”

Shekhar further spoke about the mental state of his character and said, “He was aware of the fact that he was being exploited by Mallikajaan. He was aware of the fact that he had to fall from grace to be on the side of the Britishers. He was aware that he had to leave his status as a nawab and be lying around here in a drunken state for his physical need or his lust or whatever.”

Shekhar had previously shared that Bhansali came up with the idea to perform this scene in this way on the day of the shoot and asked Shekhar if he was comfortable performing it. When Shekhar was done performing, Bhansali got up and applauded for him and cheered “magnificent”.
