Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, got engaged to her longtime boyfriend Shane Gregoire in 2023; they will get married in 2025. However, it seems like Aaliyah plans to host a lavish wedding that is being paid for by her father Anurag. In a recent episode of her podcast, ‘Young, Dumb and Anxious’, Anurag joked that the budget of Aaliyah’s wedding is probably the same as one of his movies.

The podcast started with Aaliyah complaining that Anurag had rescheduled their podcast, and when Anurag explained that he is just about to start shooting his next film soon, Aaliyah asked with a laugh, “Is that more important than your daughter?” To this, Anurag responded, “I have a wedding coming up. Somebody’s getting married and the budget of that is equivalent of my low budget movies.”

As Anurag spoke about the budget of the wedding, Aaliyah said, “It’s okay. I am your only daughter. I feel like you can make an exception. You are lucky you don’t have more children so you don’t have to do this again and again. I am your only child so it’s one and done. So it’s fine.” Anurag said, “I am happy as long as you are happy. And I have to slog.” Aaliyah then added that it was okay as it was a “once in a lifetime thing.”

In the same podcast, Aaliyah also spoke about wanting more siblings as she asked Anurag if he ever wanted to marry again. Anurag, who has been married twice, said that he doesn’t see himself as a relationship person and does not intend to get married for the third time. “Your father is too old to father a child,” he said. Speaking about being a parent to Aaliyah, Anurag said that he feels that he has been a “terrible father” to her but added that he has been more of a friend than a father.

At an earlier event in Kolkata, Anurag spoke about his relationship with his daughter and said that regrets not spending much time with his daughter. “It is very difficult and very easy. I have not spent as much time with my daughter as I should have, because at the time, my entire focus was on cinema. I was very passionate. The more you grow in life, you realise that the most valuable thing is to spend time with family, keep your good friends close, learn to be happy. And I have reached that point in life.”
