Kamal Haasan and producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, who exchanged words after their film, Aalavandhan, flopped appeared to have buried the hatchet as they came together for a special ceremony as a part of the centenary celebration of D Ramanujam, founder of the South Indian Touring Cinema Owners Association, who is referred to as the Father of Indian Cinema.

The event was organized by many veterans of Tamil cinema including producer Kalaipuli S Thanu. As the icons paid their tribute to Ramanujam, the meeting of Kamal Haasan and Kalaipuli S Thanu caught the attention of everyone. The two were seen exchanging pleasantries as the producer presented a memento to Kamal.

Later, speaking at the event, Kamal Haasan thanked Thanu for organizing the event. He also indirectly touched upon the need for maintaining decorum in the industry even during fights and debates. “I keep telling everyone that it is a small family and that’s why we shouldn’t scold each other too much. We are like the shop owners on either side of the train track. After the train passes, we have to face each other. So, whatever fights, debates, and problems we have, we should do it with some caution.”

In the comment section, people wondered when Kamal and Thanu got back on good terms. “Everyone needs this maturity. Past is past. Kalai Puli and Kamal have forgotten the past,” wrote one user.

It is well known that Kamal Haasan and Thanu had a fallout after working together in Aalavandhan (2001). Thanu claimed that his career underwent a tumultuous period due to the loss incurred by the film. He blamed Kamal for overshooting the budget and not sticking to the initial script he narrated.

The film, which was released in 2001, turned out to be a box office disaster as many of the experimental ideas of the actor failed to work. Thanu, who maintained that the film was ahead of its time, re-released the film in 2023 to an underwhelming response.

Currently, Kamal Haasan is also facing a legal issue regarding his film Uttama Villain. The producer of the film, Lingusamy has filed a case against Kamal for breaching the contract. According to the director, Kamal had promised to do a film for Thirrupathi Brothers to compensate for the loss incurred by Uttama Villain. However, Kamal hasn’t honoured the pact.
