Ed Sheeran singing Punjabi jingles, laughing on Hindi jokes, talking about Shah Rukh Khan and engaging with Sunil Grover, who is wearing a wig. It is a bizarre combination which no one saw coming and yet this is exactly what has happened as the international singer will be appearing as the next guest on the latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show.

The Kapil Sharma led Netflix comedy series dropped the trailer of its new episode, featuring Ed Sheeran as its celebrity guest. “Ye log bolte hai Netflix pe ad nahi aata,” says Krushna Abhishek as part of his character on the show, before dropping the punchline, “Pura ka pura Ed Sheeran aagaya idhar!” The camera then cuts to Ed laughing at the joke.

The promo then shifts to Kapil, who is talking to the popstar in his trademark banter. “You are younger than me in age, but I am younger than you in English!” he quips as Ed Sheeran hugs him.

The singer is then seen singing his global chartbuster “Shape of You” with a Bhangra twist, as dancers and audience groove to his peppy tune. Kapil then asks Ed Sheeran about meeting Shah Rukh Khan at Mannat, to which he says in Hindi, “Bade bade shehro mein choti choti baatein hoti rehti hai,” a spin on the superstar’s popular dialogue from DDLJ. Kapil and Ed are then seen doing the iconic Shah Rukh pose.

The trailer also gives a glimpse of the fun in store, as the four-time Grammy winner then sings a Punjabi song, “Aayo aayo, Lakhanpal nu janmdin aayo, Eating cake and eating barfi, paneer pakoda eating,” he sings. The promo ends with Kapil claiming that Ed Sheeran has specially come to meet him, as the singer quickly correctes him, “Nahi nahi, mera show hai Mumbai mein.”

The Great Indian Kapil Show has been streaming on Netflix for over a month with mixed results. The previous episode of the show featured the starcast of Heeramandi, actors Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Manisha Koirala, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sanjeeda Sheikh.
