What does it mean to have a sibling? Ratna Pathak Shah describes it as a feeling of knowing that there is a “doppelganger” around. The veteran actor has opened up about her bond with actor sister Supriya Pathak and said she was not a good sister to Supriya in their younger days. Ratna, who is four years older than Supriya, said in an interview with The Male Feminist that she was an “emotional bully” growing up and now feels ashamed of her behaviour.

“We are very different from each other and yet there is a sense that there is someone like me. When we were kids, Supriya and I fought… I was not a good sister. I have to accept that I was a very big bully, but I am glad, I got all my bullying done then. I was an emotionally bully, which is even worse.

“Maara-maari karna is nicer, cleaner but this emotional bullying is killer. I hang my head in shame, that I did it. I have apologised to Supriya, she has forgiven me, I hope! We are fine,” she added.

Ratna said when she entered the film industry, she never considered herself “good looking” and felt that Supriya was better looking than her. Talking about the comparisons that were made between the two when they started their career, the 66-year-old said, “I was worried about my teeth, my thin lips; I would say my eyes are not big, look at Supriya’s, she has such wonderful eyes. But it didn’t really bother me, because I was focused on building myself as a whole person, not someone who looks like someone else.”

On the work front, Ratna Pathak Shah was last seen in the 2023 road trip drama Dhak Dhak, which was backed by Taapsee Pannu, while Supriya Pathak starred in Satyaprem Ki Katha, headlined by Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani.
