What would Shah Rukh Khan do if he reads an article that he feels is defamatory? In the 90s, at least, he would march into the publication’s office and break it. The revelation comes from an old interview with his entrepreneur wife Gauri Khan, who spoke candidly about the impact speculative pieces would have on her superstar husband.
Users on Reddit posted a 1994 Filmfare interview of Gauri, which had the headline, ‘The Pleasure of his company.’ During the interview, which took place two years after she shifted to Mumbai, Gauri was asked if she feels “embarrassed” how Shah Rukh has been open about his love for her.

Gauri was quick to retort, wondering why it would be “embarrassing” as every husband loves his wife, but noted that the only difference is that Shah Rukh is in show business and “yet he doesn’t fool around.” Gauri then mentioned an incident, when a magazine hinted that he was having an affair with his Maya Memsaab co-star, Deepa Sahi.
“It’s a little difficult to believe that this man doesn’t talk of women and sex, he only talks of his wife. Even my parents are touched that even now when he’s such a big star he still takes care of me so gently, so beautifully. They know he isn’t faking it but others refused to take him seriously when he said he loved me. A magazine wrote about him and Deepa Sahi being locked in a room together and Shah Rukh marched to their office with a gun and broke heads and tables.”

When asked if Shah reacted violently because she was upset, Gauri said she didn’t react “at all” as she knew it wasn’t true. “Deepa is so into her husband (filmmaker Ketan Mehta). I didn’t say a word. But Shah Rukh can read me like a book, He didn’t want me to cry about something which was just someone’s flight of fancy. It really upset him. He couldn’t sleep for three nights.”
In the same interview, Gauri, was asked why the actor doesn’t do photo sessions with his co-stars. Gauri said if magazines want to write something about him and his co-star, they don’t have to get him to do a photo session.
“For that story about him and Juhi (Chawla) having an affair, they used a still from Darr. He went and broke up their office. I’ve learned to take these stories in my stride now. I trust Shah Rukh and share a great relationship with most of his co-stars. We spent 10 happy days in London with Kajol, Tanuja Aunty and Shilpa Shetty. We saw all the plays in town, went shopping. I’d die before I suspected him of having an affair,” she added.
Gauri Khan said the “only time” she has seen Shah Rukh lose his cool was at filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s party. Not divulging details about the other person involved, Gauri said, “I didn’t like him reacting violently even though it was the other guy’s fault. I tried to plead with him, pull him away. Generally, he’s quite a cool person, he flares up only when he’s rubbed the wrong way. I’m the one who’s always shouting and screaming.”
Gauri and Shah Rukh have been married for over three decades and have three children, Aryan, Suhana and AbRam.
