Two days ahead of the worldwide release of the much-anticipated film Malayalee From India, starring Nivin Pauly in the lead role, the makers have unveiled its official teaser, which presents a starkly different tone compared to its previous promotional materials. While earlier glimpses and songs hinted at a comedic atmosphere, the new teaser sets the mood of a thriller.

The 81-second teaser begins by showing a Theyyam artiste, visibly possessed by a god, asking Aalparambil Gopi’s (Nivin Pauly) mother (Manju Pillai), “Didn’t I ask you to bring your elder son before me, Lord Muthappan?” “Didn’t Muthappan warn you earlier itself that he’s going down the wrong path,” he further enquires, as Gopi appears on-screen walking out of a police station with visible injuries.

“He is like Abhimanyu trapped in the Chakravyuh,” another character tells Gopi’s mother, further heightening the tension. “Danger is lurking right behind him,” she says as another shot appears of an angry Gopi running towards the camera, seemingly to thrash someone. Behind him, his best friend Malghosh (Dhyan Sreenivasan) can be seen following him closely, holding a stick. From altercations, bomb blasts and attacks using machetes to riots, the imposition of Section 144 and Gopi traversing through mountainous terrain, the remainder of the teaser offers visuals diverging significantly from previous promotional content.

Helmed by Queen and Jana Gana Mana director Dijo Jose Antony, the film also features Anaswara Rajan, Shine Tom Chacko and Salim Kumar in key roles. Sudeep Elamon serves as Malayalee From India’s cinematographer, while Sreejith Sarang has edited it and its music has been handled by Jakes Bejoy. The film is set to hit the screens on May 1.
