Director Sriram Raghavan’s highly-anticipated thriller Merry Christmas, starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles, is all set for release on Friday. Marking the first collaboration between Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, the film was shot simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil with distinct supporting casts. Even the trailers for each language were tailored differently, heightening anticipation.
Merry Christmas is Sethupathi’s third Hindi film after Santosh Sivan’s Mumbaikar and Atlee Kumar’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan, and the film is exciting his fans across language barriers. At a recent interaction, the actor downplayed his ‘simplicity’ and said that he wants to abolish this tag altogether.
During a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, a fan praised his simplicity, prompting Sethupathi to respond stating, “People say that [I am simple]. It’s not accurate.” He clarified, “I dress comfortably. I could even wear a blazer,” gesturing towards his peach shirt. “I chose this attire today because it’s comfortable, not for simplicity. What I’m wearing is actually expensive.”

Dismissing the notion that he is a simple person, Sethupathi added, “People perceive me as simple, but it’s not true. If I feel at ease, I could even emulate James Bond. Please, I don’t want this simplicity label,” he concluded with a warm smile, eliciting laughter from Katrina as well.

While promoting the film in Mumbai on Thursday, the actor had lauded his Merry Christmas co-star Katrina Kaif and said that she is “not only beautiful but also a thinking and sensible actor.”
Sharing his experience shooting the film with Katrina, he said, “I never expected I’ll work with Katrina Kaif. I’m a very big fan of Katrina. I was very happy when I saw her on the first day and I couldn’t express (my happiness). She is a very thoughtful actor. She has so many questions. She thinks a lot. She is very dedicated. She comes up with an idea and she is ready to adapt. Even if she can’t accept your thoughts, she will listen to you. She will put in a lot of effort to make a scene better. That’s why she is in the industry not only because she is beautiful but also because she is sensible. Just on the basis of beauty you can’t survive for so long. There should be sense and understanding. I felt it when I was working with her.”
