As the Sankranti/Pongal weekend approaches, bringing with it a lineup of highly-anticipated big-budget films, it appears that director Prashanth Neel’s Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is unlikely to surpass the box office collection of Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan, let alone Atlee Kumar’s Jawan and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, based on current trends.

Although the Prabhas-starrer had a strong start and outperformed the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan (Rs 75 crore) as the biggest opener of 2023, earning over Rs 90 crore on day one, the film has been witnessing a massive decline in its daily box office earnings. Despite it being only 15 days since the movie’s release, Salaar’s collection has plunged to below Rs 5 crore in India.

On its third Friday in theatres, the Prabhas movie earned just Rs 3.67 crore, 20.22 per cent lower than its Thursday figures, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. In comparison, recent blockbusters Jawan, Animal, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Pathaan and Rajinikanth’s Jailer had earned Rs 7.6 crore, Rs 8.3 crore, Rs 7.1 crore, Rs 5.9 crore and Rs 3.95, respectively, on their third Fridays.

With this, Salaar’s total India nett now stands at Rs 382.16 crore, significantly lower than Jawan (Rs 639.75 crore), Animal (Rs 548.44 crore), Pathaan (Rs 540.51 crore), Gadar 2 (Rs 525.7 crore), and Jailer (Rs 408.5 crore).

On Friday, the epic actioner witnessed an overall occupancy of just 16.43 per cent in the Telugu market. Initially, during the morning shows, the movie recorded a mere 13.33 per cent occupancy within the Telugu belt. However, as the day unfolded, the percentages increased slightly, rising to 14.63 during the afternoon showings, reaching 17.72 during the evening shows, and concluding at 20.03 during the night screenings.

The film had recently passed the Rs 650 crore worldwide mark and is now the 12th-biggest Indian film of all time, behind Gadar 2. It is also the fifth-biggest Indian film of 2023, behind Pathaan, Jawan, Animal and Gadar 2.
