Amaal Mallik and his younger sibling Armaan Malik, both popular names in Bollywood and the world of independent music, have their own individual identities despite their numerous musical collaborations together. At times, they may look like spitting images of each other, but contrary to popular belief, they do not finish each other’s sentences. While, individually, they’ve managed to establish themselves as successful artistes, they continue to be each other’s biggest cheerleaders, critics and musical partners.
Armaan, who has sung his brother’s composition in songs like “Jab Tak,” “Sab Tera,” “Pyaar Ek Tarfa” “Bol Do Na Zara,” “Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon” and more, says, “My brother’s influence on my music is profound. We collaborate closely, and have a mutual synergy to create compositions that resonate with music listeners at large.”

The singer-songwriter, who recently performed at Royal Stag Boombox, in Pune, tells indianexpress.com, “Together, we share a deep understanding of each other’s musical sensibilities, and that allows us to seamlessly weave our individual strengths into every song we create.” However, in pursuit of creating music together, they have to deal with differences, too, which never seem to deter them from reuniting as musicians over and over again. “Disagreements are inevitable, as they are in any creative partnership. However, our bond, as siblings and our shared passion for music serve as strong foundations for navigating through any difference of opinion. We approach disagreements with mutual respect, understanding that they stem from our commitment to creating the best possible work,” adds Amaal, who recently joined Ed Sheeran and Marshmello during their performances in India.

Composer Amaal, while talking about his brother, Armaan, told Outlook Magazine, “Armaan and I never agree. We really need to go through a series of dramatic fights to agree on things. Obviously, after several years of working together, both of us have grown up, and we both understand what is right for the song. Whenever he makes something for his English singles and his EPs and his foreign collaborations, he plays those tracks to me and I give him my advice.” The brothers also came together for the song “Kya Kiya Hai tune” for ALTBalaji’s web series, Broken But Beautiful 3.

In September 2023, when Armaan, decided to propose marriage to his girlfriend and popular influencer, Aashna Shroff, he could trust nobody but his brother Amaal to compose a special musical love letter in the form of the song, “Kasam Se”. He leaned on Amaal to help him express his feelings with his tunes. “Kasam Se is such a special song to me. Amaal’s unique insight and deep empathy allowed us to craft the song with utmost authenticity. His understanding of the true sentiments behind writing a song for the love of my life added depth and sincerity that resonated with listeners on a profound level.”

Despite coming from a family of musicians — Amaal and Armaan are children of musician Dabboo Malik, they had their fair share of struggles. “My journey as a musician has had its own unique set of challenges. I started singing at a very young age and have grown up in front of the industry. The journey has not been easy from being a child singer to a playback singer to an independent singer. Even though I have had support from my family, carving a niche for myself as a musician and moulding my own identity is a challenge that I have faced. It’s a journey of constant growth and learning that shapes my artistic expression,” says Armaan.
