Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who is gearing up for the release of his next film Amar Singh Chamkila, found himself in a tough spot when he was asked to choose between Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal, as well as between Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.

In an interview with Connect FM Canada, Imtiaz was asked, “Kareena in Jab We Met or Deepika in Cocktail, a better performance.” He replied, “Very tough, very tough but let me say Kareena because I was the director.” Imtiaz was also asked to choose between Jab We Met and Cocktail. The filmmaker said that Jab We Met was a better film. He also chose Gulzar as a better lyricist over Javed Akhtar.

When asked Jab We Met or Love Aaj Kal, the film closer to his heart, Imtiaz said, “Jab We Met. It’s more mine.” The director also revealed that he would prefer outdoor shoots over indoor shoots and chose night shoots over morning shoots.

Amar Singh Chamkila stars Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles. Imtiaz was all praise for Diljit and said, “I thought that Diljit won’t be able to do the film so I didn’t approach him in the beginning. And I was approaching other actors and it was not working out for some other reasons. And then he came around.”

He continued, “Now the moment I started speaking to him, I realized that I couldn’t have made this film without Diljit. And that’s what my position is right now. When I see the film, anyone who sees the film, they feel that I couldn’t have made the film without him.”

Amar Singh Chamkila will start streaming on Netflix from April 12.
