Katrina Kaif, along with filmmaker Sriram Raghavan and her co-actor Vijay Sethupathi, shared a sneak peek of the Tamil version of the trailer of her upcoming film Merry Christmas in Mumbai. After the trailer launch, the Tiger 3 actor shared her excitement on being a part of Sriram Raghavan film and sharing the screen space with Bollywood’s favourite south Indian star Vijay Sethupathi.

Katrina reflected on her first meeting with Sriram and Vijay and said that she didn’t know what to expect because she hails from a different kind of cinema altogether.

Sharing how she realised that Vijay looks at films and the filmmaking process with a very different perspective, she said, “I was really excited to be working with Sriram sir and Vijay. The moment we got together in a room, I think everyone came just as themselves and we were instantly able to connect. The minute Vijay sir started speaking about a scene, it was fascinating for me, I just thought that he is the person who views things in such a unique way; it’s the way he sees stories, the way he sees people.”

Katrina said that all the success she has seen in her career has come from “commercial entertainers” and that stepping out of it for Merry Christmas was initially a daunting thought. “You can feel nervous or a little fearful when you step out of the zone of a large commercial entertainer. But, I think, the solution is to be fearless because the experience is really incredible for an actor. And it is an important thing for my growth as a performer, so I’ll just say you feel the fear and feel the nerves, that’s good, let that drive you and give every film your heart and soul, that’s what I try to do.”

Katrina confessed that she’s been searching for opportunities to diverge her filmography, and Merry Christmas offered her an ‘exciting’ change she’s been looking for. “As an actor you are looking to tell a story and be a part of a story that is really interesting; for me, Merry Christmas ticked all the boxes. It was a really a unique journey, a unique story about two fascinating characters. The minute I heard it, I was hooked. Of course there are high octane action films which are wonderful, it is a certain type of cinema. But there are also intimate and unique stories to be told and that story has to be told at a scale that is suitable to that particular story. For an actor to be able to do both is what I personally enjoy doing,” she said.

Merry Christmas, directed by Sriram Raghavan and provided by Ramesh Taurani ‘s Tips Films and Matchbox Pictures is slated to release on January 12.
