Actor Sridevi became the most sought after actor not just in Hindi but in Southern film industries as well. However, this is not the life she imagined for her daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. The late actor’s husband, producer Boney Kapoor shared that Sridevi would often talk about their children’s marriage.
In an interview with News18’s Showsha, Boney said that like any other mother, Sridevi would attend weddings and later talk about her daughters’ wedding day. Boney said, “She never wanted any of the daughters to become actors. She was imagining ke inki shaadi karenge. Jab bhi hum kisi ki shaadi pe jaate the toh sochte the ke hum Janhvi ki shaadi bhi aise karenge. Koi aisa hi ladka mil jaaye (She imagined Janhvi and Khushi getting married. Whenever we would attend a wedding, Sridevi and I would draw inspirations from the wedding and think that this is how we would get Janhvi also married. She wished for Janhvi to find a nice boy).”

Janhvi Kapoor made her debut with 2018 film Dhadak, months after Sridevi’s demise. Khushi made her acting debut more recently in 2023, with Zoya Akhtar’s Netflix adaptation of Archies.
Boney shared that when Sridevi was alive, the couple never imagined their daughters becoming actors. Instead, they imagined them picking other professions.
“Kabhi khayaal nahi aaya ke heroine banayenge. Badte badte badte ek din… Humko ek din laga doctor banegi, humko ek din laga kuch aur banegi. Suddenly, ek din aa ke maa ko bolti mere ko bhi acting karni hai. (We never thought they would grow up to become actresses. We thought Janhvi would become a doctor or something. One day she suddenly came up to Sridevi and said, ‘I want to act.’) This is when Dhadak happened,” Boney said.
Janhvi, who is said to be dating Shikhar Pahariya, is making her Telugu debut with NTR Jr’s Devara Part 1. She will also be seen alongside Ram Charan in his next, tentatively titled RC16. The actor is also entering Tamil film industry with a film with Suriya, details of which have not been disclosed yet.
