Sharmila Tagore started making her own money when she was just a teenager and even though it took her some time to take control of her finances, Tagore said that she had an understanding with her late husband Mansoor Ali Khan (Tiger) Pataudi where the assets they bought with their own money, were in their own names, which she pointed in an conversation about partners with joint financial assets.

On Paisa Vaisa with Anupam Gupta, the veteran actor said that none of her assets were shared between her and her husband. “Everything that I bought, my assets as in houses, cars or anything material, jewellery… has always been in my name. It’s not been shared, not in my husband’s name. And what Tiger has, has been in his name and of course, he made a will,” she shared.

Sharmila Tagore claimed that in Islam, one is not allowed to make a will but they had to think about it. “In Islam, we are not allowed to make a will so you have to think about that. You can give it to non heirs, but you cannot give it to your heirs… 25%, 50% like that. So that needs to be very well understood. We have a lot of land so that needs to be looked at and controlled and make sure that whose name… I have 3 children. Just make sure that everything is in order,” she said. Tagore has three children – two daughters Soha and Saba and a son Saif.

The actor said that she became aware of her financial portfolio much later in life and before that, she had never taken an active interest in that. In fact, she shared that it was during the pandemic that she actually took matters in her own hands and started working towards managing her wealth.
