Akshay Kumar, among the biggest action stars of India, recently opened up about the toughest stunt he had to do in a film where he jumped to catch a running airplane on the runway and then jumped on to a hot air balloon to save the heroine. Akshay called himself “crazy” for pulling off the stunt without safety gear.

When asked what was the toughest action stunt of his career and whether, now at the age of 56, he thinks twice before doing something like that, Akshay said at the trailer launch of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, “The biggest action sequence I have done in my life was when I had to stand on a plane. I had to catch a running plane while it was on the runway. I had to catch it, climb and stand on top of it and then jump onto a hot-air balloon. I think woh uss waqt paagalpan tha (it was madness). I was mad. I was crazy. I tried, once in my life, to test God and thankfully I was safe. There were 70% chances that I wouldn’t survive and only 30% that I would. It was that difficult and I would never do it again.”

Akshay is known to do his action stunts himself in film, without a body double. He opened up that before taking up action films, he checks the safety measures for the whole crew and looks out on how he can “preserve” himself.

He said, “I’m told to never do those things again. Now I have become a bit samajhdaar (sane), now I think ten times before attempting something like this. I have to preserve myself, it is not about doing crazy things, it is about my safety first and now a lot of things have become (a lot safer). Earlier if we were jumping from a chopper, there wouldn’t be mattresses below, we would just jump on the ground and break our knees or something. It was the worst. But now, safety has become the main concern and insurances are there. My job at the moment is to preserve myself and keep myself healthy.”

Bade Miyan Chote Miya producer Jackky Bhagnani revealed that Akshay injured his knee while shooting for the film in Jordan. He said, “I know Akshay sir will not say this, but he broke his knee while shooting action in Jordan. If it was someone else, they would call off the shoot, but Akshay tied bandages and continued shooting, he was unstoppable…”

Akshay and Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’s trailer launched in Mumbai on Tuesday. The film, high on action, is scheduled to release on Eid, April 10. Along with Akshay and Tiger, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan also stars Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran as the negative lead and Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F.
